Nativity After-School Programs

Church of the Nativity is proud to host several community organizations that provide high-quality after-school community education for young people.  All are welcome – you need not be a member of Nativity to participate.  Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics will offer classes here on Tuesdays.  Desert Foothills Theater will offer classes on Thursdays.  Leonardo’s Studio will offer art classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics

On Tuesday afternoons beginning September 3, 2013, Arizona Sunrays will offer gymnastics classes.  Three levels will be offered:

Rising Stars3 -5 years, 3:30 – 4:15 p.m.  Through the use of step-by-step progressions, students learn the basic skills of gymnastics including Handstands, Cartwheels and Backward Rolls. The Rising Stars students are provided with an array of apparatus circuit work that keeps everyone engaged in activity.

Stars 1, 6-9 years, 4:20 – 5:05 p.m.  Gymnasts receive instruction on the events of Tumbling, Vaulting and Low Beam.  Our gymnasts experience increased flexibility, muscular strength development, and improved agility.  Fitness components are included in the curriculum in a very fun fashion through cooperative games and props.

Tumble Tots18 months – 3 years, 5:10 – 5:40 p.m.  This is a parent participation class full of giggles and fun!  Our curriculum includes eye/hand coordination activities with colorful props. Occasional musical activities add to the thrill of class.

Desert Foothills Theater

On Thursdays from September 12 through December 12, 2013, Desert Foothills Theater will offer four classes:

Acting Up!  Ages 5 and up, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.:  Start at the beginning with story devising, improvisation and theater games to hone your imagination and develop basic acting skills.  Learn how to start using your voice and your body to create fun characters.

Mini Musical Theater, Ages 5 and up, 4:40 – 5:40 p.m.  Add a little music and movement to your fabulous imagination and you have a mini triple threat!  Sing and dance your way through this fun high-energy class!

Voice Class, Ages 8 – 12, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  Learn proper breath control, tone and production in a small group setting.  Become more comfortable singing in front of others and learn what songs best show off your unique voice.  Limited to 8 students.

Intro to TheaterAges 8 – 12, 4:35 – 5:50 p.m.  Students explore stage movement in relation to motive and character; voice for theater; improvisation and much more.  As you explore the skills necessary to further develop as an actor, you will also learn the discipline and rehearsal etiquette expected during productions.

Leonardo’s Studio

Welcome to Leonardo’s Studio – Let your Artistic Heart shine!!!!!

Come join other 3rd-6th grade serious artists for 8 or 10 classes to gain drawing skills and work in various media. Class starts with a short drawing lesson and then continues with a major art project. Drawing lessons include perspective, volumetric shapes, values and cartooning. Art projects explore watercolor and acrylic painting, printmaking, weaving, paper sculpture and wire sculpture. Class size is limited to 15 students.

Ten art classes will be held Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15. Class dates are as follows: September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 30, November 6, 13, and 20. The fee for ten sessions is $160.00 and includes all supplies.

Eight classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30. Class dates are as follows: October 1, 8, 15, 29, November 5, 12, and December 3 and 10. The fee for 8 sessions is $130.00 and includes all supplies.

Mrs. Kohl has taught in the PVUSD district as an art specialist for 21 years. She was Arizona Art Teacher of the Year and her students win numerous art awards. The time she spends with your child will be memorable and exciting.
