At Nativity, we encourage you to get involved. We have many ministries that help those outside the church, from feeding the hungry to building houses for the poor to doing mission work. We have many ministries within the church community too, in all our ministry areas: worship, music, teaching, hospitality, greeting, and so on. This section contains information about some of our ministries of service to others.
WE BELIEVE IN THE GREAT COMMANDMENT: LOVE GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.
Acolytes & Readers
During the 8 am and 10 am service, lay volunteers are needed to help in many ways throughout the worship service. Acolytes carry the candles and the cross in the procession, as well as assist the clergy in setting the altar for communion. Lectors read from the lectionary and guide the congregation in the prayers of the people. Lay Eucharistic Ministers (chalice bearers) help administer the chalice during communion. If you would like to learn more about being an acolyte or lay eucharistic minister, please volunteer here: "Button: Acolytes & Readers."
Altar Guild
The Nativity Altar Guild works to prepare the altar for worship services, including baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. The Altar Guild is also responsible for the care of vestments, altar hangings, linens, candles, silver/brass, and flowers. If you’re interested in helping behind the scenes with the Altar Guild, please volunteer here: "Button: Altar Guild."
Flower Guild
The Flower Guild is a group of dedicated and devoted volunteers who are responsible for the arranging and placement of flowers within the church for regular worship and special services. Flowers may be given in memory of loved ones, in celebration of an anniversary or a birth or for any occasion for which we give thanks to God. In addition to creating beauty from God's creation, their ministry serves to honor loved ones through flower donations. Altar Flowers, Columbarium Flowers, and Christmas or Easter Flower donations can be made in thanksgiving for or in memory of a loved one.
Greeters
Church greeters are the warm, wonderful first connection to any Sunday morning service at Nativity. Greeters engage members and visitors alike with a smile and stand ready to help all people find comfort with all the happenings at Nativity. If you love people and want to join our team, please volunteer: "Button: Greeters."
Ushers
Ushers are a crucial part of our Sunday morning worship services. In addition to being a warm welcome to all, ushers also hand out bulletins, pass the offering plate, and assist those in need during the service. If you’re considering becoming an usher – a role for all ages and walks of life – please volunteer here: "Button: Ushers."
Hospitality Hosts
Each week we hold a Hospitality Hour in Christopher Hall after the 10:00 AM service. This is a great time to connect with friends, catch up on current events, and enjoy delicious food, juice, and coffee. We are always looking for new volunteers to help us prepare food, set up the table, and generally help make this a lovely gathering. If you’d like to join the team or bring food on a single Sunday, please reach out here: "Button: Hospitality Hosts."
